Graduated from St. Agnes: Class of 1997

Current city: Key Biscayne, FL

Derek and his family moved to Key Biscayne from New Jersey in 1996. Wanting to continue his Catholic education, he started attending St. Agnes as a 7th grader and his sister, Morgan, as a 2nd grader. After graduating from St. Agnes, he attended the IB Magnet Program at Coral Gables Senior High then went on to obtain his bachelor and graduate degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Miami. He currently owns his own company, D Squared Engineering, that focuses on sustainable development solutions. When Derek’s son was born he took the opportunity to return to Key Biscayne, where his son is currently a PK3 student at St. Agnes.

Favorite St. Agnes memories:

Weekly Mass, Reading Buddies, Blessing of the Animals, 8th grade class trip to Busch Gardens

Why did you decide to return to live and work here on the Key?

I love the beach and having the beach in my backyard was amazing. I also wanted to provide my son with the same quality of life and connection to community.

Who influenced you the most during your time here?

Mr. B and Mrs. Stickney – they are amazing!
